Art Education
Art Education has been a long-time pillar of The Collective’s mission. For over 35 years, The Collective has fostered environments for continuous exposure and application of different art forms for both youth and adults in the Houston area. Art professionals have served in teaching capacities to pass on their knowledge of various media including quilting, (Jubilee Quilt Circle), photography, painting, sculpture and more.
Role and Function
The Community Artists’ Collective’s Art Education Coordinator position will work closely with The Collective’s Executive Director, Assistant Director, and other program coordinators, to develop and maintain a robust and immersive arts education programming onsite at The Collective and at designated locations we partner with for arts residencies. The AE Coordinator will also lead the formulation of art curricula that will work as a creative vehicle for teaching artists and instructors to articulate various art media for classes and workshops for both youth and adults.
The ideal candidate will assist with art education management and oversight, and should exemplify the following qualities: be highly organized, have excellent communication skills, be professional and pleasant, proactive and show initiative, be a problem solver, and have the energy and ability to balance multiple tasks.
Skills Required:
§ Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (degrees in Art, Education, Technology, receive priority consideration).
§ Exposure and experience in education field K-12 in Houston area or proximity
§ Technology: Proficient in Microsoft 365, Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), experience with Adobe Suite (Acrobat Reader, Write, Illustrator)
§ Strong Communication and correspondence skills
§ Strong leadership skills and ability to think critically and creatively
§ Strong desire to continue learning and developing professional skillsets
§ Capacity for networking and relationship building.
§ Positive attitude and competitive spirit

Responsibilities:
§ Communicate and engage with Arts organizations with an Education Program to identify potential partnerships
§ Create and facilitate teaching artist professional development training
§ Seek out funding opportunities that support the art education projects and programs
§ Plan and create a schedule of art class offerings onsite at CAC
§ Maintain a schedule of art residencies with civic partners and Houston area schools.
§ With ED and AD, maintain relationship with the Ion District for partnerships and sponsorship for programming.
§ Coordinate and maintain relationships with local artists to utilize as teaching artists for residencies and onsite classes
Role Type
Part-Time (20 Hours) Hybrid (Remote and In Office)
The Community Artists’ Collective is open to the public Thursdays through Saturdays from noon to 5 PM. The Art Education Coordinator is requested to be on site Thursday and Friday, with Saturdays optional and as needed to support other CAC staff and programming.

§ Applicants must complete VIPs (Volunteers in Public Schools), training for connected work with HISD (Houston Independent School District).
Compensation
$25K
*Compensation is commiserate with the part-time requirement of 20 hours per week.
