Jubilee Quilt Circle - Vitality Arts Workshop: Textile Conservation

  • Glassell School of Art 5101 Montrose Boulevard Houston, Texas, 77006 United States (map)

In this hands-on workshop geared toward older adults, participants get a rare behind-the-scenes look at textile conservation at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. The session begins at the Sarah Campbell Blaffer Foundation Center for Conservation, where Sara Ludueña, assistant conservator for textiles, leads a short presentation and guided viewing of quilted objects from the MFAH collection in the Textile Conservation Lab. Afterward, participants return to Glassell for a repair session working with damaged textiles and leave with practical skills in basic quilt care and conservation techniques.

This workshop is part of the Vitality Arts series presented by the Glassell School of Art, in partnership with the Community Artists' Collective and its Jubilee Quilt Circle. This program receives generous support from E.A. Michelson Philanthropy.

No prior experience is needed. All materials are provided at no cost. Lunch and refreshments are included.
