Celebrating 40 Years of Art, Culture & Community

For four decades, the Community Artists' Collective has served as a cornerstone of Houston's cultural landscape—championing artists, preserving cultural traditions, expanding access to the arts, and building community through creativity.

On Saturday, February 27, 2027, the Collective will commemorate this extraordinary milestone with FolkFest 2027, a free, daylong celebration that honors the organization's legacy while looking boldly toward the future.

Held at the ION District Red Parking Lot in Midtown/ 3rd Ward- Houston, FolkFest will transform the space into a vibrant cultural gathering featuring live music and performances, visual arts, interactive experiences, local food, artist vendors, and hands-on activities for all ages. Throughout the festival, visitors will experience the rich history of the Collective through archival exhibitions, storytelling, and opportunities to connect with the artists, educators, and community leaders who have shaped its remarkable 40-year journey.

More than a festival, FolkFest will embody the Collective's four pillars of Exhibitions, Community Development, Entrepreneurship, and Education. Every performance, artist demonstration, workshop, and marketplace experience will reflect the organization's enduring commitment to cultivating creativity, supporting artists, and strengthening communities through the arts.

Since its founding in 1987, the Community Artists' Collective has supported generations of artists, educators, and cultural leaders while expanding access to arts education and preserving African American artistic traditions. Recognized in 2024 as one of Houston's Cultural Treasures by the BIPOC Arts Network and Fund (BANF), the Collective continues to serve as a vital space where artists create, communities connect, and culture thrives.

FolkFest 2027 is both a celebration of this enduring legacy and an investment in the next generation of artists, creatives, and cultural leaders.
